Charities Work - Autumn Term 2019
We regularly ask pupils to think of and offer help to those in need and, every year, the school community supports a range of local, national and international charities.
In September, we held our 14th Macmillan Coffee morning followed by “Jeans for Genes” day. These raised £581.04 and £253.50 respectively.
We have supported Manna House in Kendal through our Harvest collection and a pre-Christmas toy collection.
We continue to support the Boxes of Hope charity.
For Remembrance Day, members of Mission and cast members of Beauty & The Beast collaborated to produce a moving service using voices from the Great War. We raised £126.55.
During the last week of term, the Christingle service took place with funds donated to the Children’s Society.
We have also raised £307.43 towards sponsoring a puppy for Guide Dogs for the Blind and the whole school was given the opportunity to participate in Steve Cody’s 365 day Cha Cha Slide Planking challenge for CancerCare. The film can be viewed on our Facebook page.
We also sponsor the education of 2 children in Uganda via the Children of Hope charity. This term we have raised £603.71 to support the education of Kintu and Nasali and welcomed Juliet Burd from the charity to give us an update on the students.
We are also raising funds for a water tank in Rwanda. All churches are required to have a tank to collect rainwater during monsoon times, otherwise they will be closed, a threat to lots of villages. We are delighted that Cartmel, Allithwaite and Leven Valley Primary schools will soon be joining the fundraising.
